Bioshock
Bioshock was certainly a surprising game to me. At the time, outside of gaming, it had this kind
of stigma attached - gritty horror that allows you to kill kids. There was so much more to it, though - and infact, I don't think it really counts as a 'horror' game. The deal with the little sisters is really the only choice you get, and even then, it's out of two strict options. The whole story seems to be this metaphor for linear gameplay - follow the path, would you kindly?

 inFamous
Though I've seen people have mixed feelings about this game, I really enjoyed inFamous. It's a sandbox set in a large city, with quick ways to get around and a surprisingly interesting story. Though the whole 'super power weapon' thing is way overused, I believe inFamous managed to do it well.
Even though the satellite race missions got tiresome, the extra missions were many and ranged all sorts of tasks, from combat to even posing for photos! The gameplay is fun and the good ending had me in almost in tears, though the moral choice system did seem unnecessary, considering the hero ending is the 'true' ending.

Assassin's Creed III
I got Assassin's Creed III for Christmas last year. I was really excited for AC3 - I loved the original Assassin's Creed and Ezio's games even more so. I however found AC3 quite lacking - the environments were all very samey and Connor has about as much personality as a cardboard cut-out. Even though it's something that sets AC4 alight for me, the sailing in AC3 wasn't enjoyable at all and I avoided it whenever possible. I'm not quite sure what went wrong with this game - I did enjoy it, though certainly not to the degree of any of the previous games in the series. The setting wasn't exactly the most interesting in history and the game overall felt too cinematic.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted seems kind of what happens when you cross Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. It's a cover based shooter, which I hadn't played much of at the time, so I pretty much enjoyed it. It's smooth, well-executed and cinematic, though you're mostly told the answers to the puzzles. The game was rather short, and overall it was very enjoyable at the time but it isn't something that particularly sticks with you afterwards.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
There isn't much I can say about Uncharted 2 that wouldn't just be repeating what I'd said about the original Uncharted. It expands on the story of the first, though is generally more of the same. Still, I enjoyed it, as would anyone who enjoyed the first game.

Misao
3/4 Endings played through, (1/2 girl, 2/2 boy); Truth complete.
Misao really sparked my love for RPGMaker horror games! The game has great atmosphere and is puzzle-based, though you might have trouble with some of the puzzles if you don't have knowledge on supernatural things and Japanese myths/urban legends. The main character's reactions, however, may leave you wondering... You can download it here.

The Witch's House
The Witch's House was another RPGMaker horror. This one is more puzzle-based with quite the plot twist. I'll write more in-depth about it once I have the chance to play it again, but I certainly recommend it. You can download it here.

 Mad Father
RPGMaker horror. Has quite a different feeling to Misao and quite a surprising ending. I really loved the characters, and thought I kind of wish there was more detail to them, I probably enjoyed this and Misao the most out of any other RPGMaker game I've played. You can download it here.

Ib
Ib (I assume it's actually supposed to be 'Eve'?) was quite a big deal when it was released. While there's admittedly not much to the gameplay the environments and characters is where this game really shines. You can download it here.

Palette
Another RPGMaker game, Palette was apparently so popular it got a PSone re-release. It's a sort of crime story where you play as a psychiatrist, attempting to unravel the memories of a client over the phone. Overall the story is quite gripping, though events are in a fairly random order which makes it difficult to follow. You can download it here.

The Crooked Man
The Crooked Man, is - wait for it - another RPGMaker horror. This one has a slightly darker overtone but a surprisingly light, happy ending. You can download it here.

Happy Birthday
The last of the RPGMaker games this year. Happy Birthday is a murder mystery, and though simple is written half-decently. I guessed the culprit on my first playthough, though I had been doubting my choice before making it. You can download it here.

Tomb Raider (2013)
I have so many mixed feelings about this game - I enjoyed it enough to collect the extra items, but... Well, the gameplay certainly lived up to the hype. It's fast, fluid, easy to handle and should have been done long ago; gone are the frustrations of unnecessarily complex controls. However, the story and characters is where TR2013 falls apart. Lara is bland. It's funny that this game has a such a focus on character development, because there isn't any. Also, the story and mystery of the island and it's people are pitifully easy to guess. Really, I liked Tomb Raider more when it wasn't trying to be the child of Lost and Uncharted... and I liked Tomb Raider even more when it wasn't Americanised beyond recognition.

Bayonetta
Luka was an amusing character! Overall, the game got better and better towards the end. The story concept is actually rather awesome, and while it definitely wasn't told well enough or with the detail it should have been, it was still a pretty enjoyable game. The gameplay was fast and fluid and rather a breeze.

Style Boutique
 Well, this is embarrassing.
What this game lacks in practically every other field it makes up for with surprisingly good design and clothing choices - namely Punk and Lolita styles! It shows that even fashion games can be good when done right.

Mermaid Swamp
Okay, so maybe I lied... this is the last RPGmaker game of the year. It's another horror, based on Japanese mermaids. You can download it here.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel

 Bioshock 2
Spoilers ahead. It's official; I love Bioshock. While the combat become kind of tiresome towards the end, the ending made it all worth it! I was kind of concerned about Eleanor in the ending - would it really be too much of a problem to let her father keep his body? I do believe the Big Daddy was her actual father when they'd first went to Rapture, though. When we got to see the world through the Little Sister's eyes - that explained so much, but was actually pretty heart-breaking.

Bioshock Infinite
Spoilers! The tragedy of a man obsessed with scavenging candyfloss from bins and corpses. But seriously I just don't even know what to make of the ending. It makes so much sense, while making no sense whatsoever at the same time. What I'd assume is giving Anna away affected Booker so much that he'd blocked the memories out - plausible, I've seen that happen. However, that makes no sense why he was always mumbling about Anna in the beginning. Have to admit, I loved the fact the protagonist wasn't silent.
